THE VIEW FROM IVENS HILL

The idea for this page came about when an exiled Chestertonian visited the village fete in the Summer. She told me that she got quite tearful when she made the journey home and went down the hill, as the view looking down on the village, bought back so many pleasant memories of her childhood, and the countless times that the same view had been seen. So, for you we have pictured above a view of the spire of St Michaels surrounded by trees, and immediately below a view of the houses at the Elton end of the village. Both of these photographs were taken at 7AM on a beautiful early August morning.

The picture at the foot of the page shows the view out across the field to Peterborough. Factory units in Orton Southgate make for a not quite so scenic view but the Cathedral is quite easily visible some five miles away with St Mary's flats to the left. Panning round even further to the right I could just make out the top of the spire of Yaxley church. Sadly this trip up the hill turned sour as the heavens opened about five minutes after this photograph was taken
